Stewart Patterson, Arbitrator And Mediator
A highly qualified & experienced professional
Stewart Patterson is highly qualified and has practised as a barrister for many years, handling many different types of case and dealing with many different types of client.
Stewart is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a mediator accredited to CEDR (the Centre of Effective Dispute Resolution) and ADR Group (Alternative Dispute Resolution). He has also sat for many years as a Recorder (part-time judge) both in civil and criminal cases.
He not only acts as an Arbitrator, but he has also been a Mediator for many years, and has acted as such in a wide variety of disputes. While he has a specialist knowledge of building cases, as he has a master’s degree in “Construction Law and Arbitration”, he also has a vast experience of dealing with other types of contract and other kinds of case.
Just to give a flavour, his cases have included disputes between:
- a contractor and the owner of a building
- main contractor and sub-contractor
- restrictive covenants on property
- training contracts
- supply of specialised products
- mobile telephone franchise
- disagreements between professional partners
- disputed property
- boundary disputes
- landlord and tenant
- minority shareholding
- currency fluctuations
- delivery and fitting of engineering equipment
- supply of computer hardware and software
Thus Stewart brings to bear a life-time of experience of cases of all sorts, and has an understanding approach to the warring parties. He is a great believer in listening to what the combatants have to say and rapidly absorbing the content and context of their dispute.
Stewart’s work in the past as a regular writer and broadcaster on legal affairs equips him to communicate effectively with others who may have little knowledge of the law, and to explain difficult concepts in easy terms. He adopts a flexible approach to suit the circumstances of the case.
